Please join us for our second webinar in our Fall W Wellness Series- Healing the Mind, Body, and Spirit

Dr. Lauren Scher is a licensed medical acupuncturist, board-certified physician anesthesiologist, and the founder of Rebalance Acupuncture and Wellness in Bethesda, Maryland. As a physician and acupuncturist, Dr. Scher believes the path to wellness should integrate both Western and Eastern medicine for optimal health and balance.

Following the loss of her father during her first year of medical school, and watching her mother's journey as a widow, Dr. Scher began to appreciate how grief could impact the health of both the mind and body.  She decided to seek training in Mind-Body Medicine and became the faculty facilitator for the anesthesia residency program at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.  As the Wellness Director, Dr. Scher hoped to help students and colleagues cope with both personal and professional stressors.

It was during Lauren‘s medical training and residency that she became aware of how patients struggle with acute and chronic pain as well as chronic illness, symptoms reflecting both mental and physical stress.   As an anesthesiologist, she now is well-versed in pain management and worked on the Acute Pain Service, as well as in the operating rooms at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. She knew many of the patients treated would likely go home still struggling with pain and possibly require chronic treatment, including opioids.  Her holistic approach to treating stress includes integrating her medical training, her mind-body training, and her training in acupuncture.  She will discuss and answer questions about using acupuncture to find relief from some of life's challenges.  Dr. Scher is also trained in cupping and Gua Sha.

Lauren received her medical acupuncture training for physicians from the Helms Medical Institute, received her medical degree (MD) from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC, and completed her residency in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Following her residency, she worked as an anesthesiologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, where she was an assistant professor, cared for patients in the general ORs, OB anesthesiology, and as part of the Acute Pain Service, where she performed nerve blocks under ultrasound guidance for acute pain as well as inpatient pain management. She continues to work as an anesthesiologist at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC and as a medical acupuncturist in Bethesda, MD.

Lauren is currently licensed in both Maryland and Washington, DC.
